Sep 11, 2012 · With virtually no fanfare, Opera has introduced support for version 5 of the SOCKS proxy protocol. The only way I found it was by reading the change log for the new version. It isn't even available through the normal menu where you would configure other proxy types (Settings->Preferences->Network->Proxy Servers).

I'm using Opera on a Windows tablet, and need to use a SOCKS5 proxy. I can set the proxy either using an addon (for example, "SimpleProxy") or by adding command-line switches, and it works fine on some sites, however on some other sites, for example www.google.com , these symptoms occur:

I am paying for a VPN service that offers SOCKS5 but the Vivaldi browser does not support this protocol. Please consider adding SOCKS5 support. HTTP/HTTPS proxy support does work but there are limitations and security issues that are addressed when using SOCKS5, which is much more robust and faster. Thanks!
