The process works fine in every browser I tested except in Internet Explorer 8 (I have not tested the other versions of explorer). I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, except that is has something to do with the xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() line. The only thing the PHP file is set to do right now is simply echo back a simple message.
