When I do the following: gm convert foo.tif bar.png (where foo.tif is a 200dpi color scanned file -- probably a Canon from what I am reading about them using the 'old style') I get the following message: gm convert: Old-style JPEG compression support is not configured.

Dec 18, 2002 · ImageMagick reports "Old-style JPEG compression support is not configured." Which would suggest that it *can* be configured, but I find nothing in the documentation or the source code to suggest how to do this. There are hints about recompiling ImageMagick with LZW support, but not "old style JPEG" support. I am running sid/experimental.

Error: "JPEG compression support not configured" This is caused by the TIFF library not including JPEG compression support. Either way THIS IS BAD. You can get around this problem by changing the setting to use a different compression algorithm: convert image.jpg -compress zip image.tif convert image.jpg -compress lzw image.tif

Nov 13, 2014 · I guess, as "old-style" JPEG compression is deprecated in TIFF, because it was never fully specified. And because of this under-specification, various vendors implemented it in different, incompatible ways. Support was dropped in favor for TIFF compression 7, JPEG. Unfortunately,old TIFF files using this compression still exists.
