Pistons that utilize pin buttons have a built-in groove that provides support for the oil ring where the high pin bore passes through the oil ring groove. A support rail is not required in this application because the pin button fills the gap. Oil rail supports are the choice for the majority of pistons.

Jan 15, 2019 · I believe they go below the bottom oil ring, to cover the part of the wrist pin hole that intersects the oil ring groove. They provide support for the oil ring at that point. There are locators on the rail that keep the open ends from wandering over to the wrist pin hole. I see no problem using them.
