You only need to format in NTFS with a PC (the NSLU2 unit cannot do it). Plug the NTFS disk on port 1 (or port 2 if FW 2.3R72) and plug an another disk on the other port (this one formatted by the NSLU2) to allow the NSLU2 to use this second disk as a chache/swap area ; taht's recommended to handle correctly the NTFS disk.

No, you can't hot-swap a USB drive between your NSLU2 and your notebook computer for two reasons; 1) The NSLU2 does NOT support hot-swapping. You risk serious damage to your files if you start yanking your USB key in and out of a running NSLU2 unit. 2) The file format of a NSLU2 is NOT compatible with native Windows.

NSLU2 will support maximum of 1TB Hard Drive Size, as you already have 2 Hard Drives connected, it covers 520GB, so you need to use a third hard drive of maximum size 500GB, 1TB or 1.5TB will not work...However, you can give it a try with 1TB Hard Drive...

The NTFS support is limited to read/write and you can not make private directories on the NTFS disc as the NSLU2 runs an embedded version of Linux (which has no support for the security and access control lists used by NTFS)
