Oct 17, 2009 · The Nikon manul indicates a 4 Gb speed is allowed but that was the highest speed at tthe time the camera was marketed. With improvements in technology we have watched the size of SD cards continue to increase. What is now the allowed cards for the D80 model? The SanDisk site indicates the Ultra card but does list any of the Extreme III cards.

The bad news, is that the Nikon D90 currently does not support the SDXC memory. Since the physical interface between SDHC and SDXC cards is the same, Nikon might be able to support SDXC in D90 by releasing a firmware update that can read the SD 3.0 specification.

Jul 21, 2006 · D80's are compatible with HCSD (High Capacity SD) cards, so there shouldn't be any issues. Make sure you have the updated firmware also. It shouldn't make a difference but doesn't hurt. I think i've used some pretty large cards in mine, but can't remember now. I know i've used at least 8Gb cards. 80 months ago

There is a good chance the camera doesn't recognize that large of an SD card. Did you try creating a smaller partition on the card? Nikon may have a firmware update but that's an older camera so it may not support that large of a memory card.
