Aug 30, 2005 · Cisco recommends that you use Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) sparse mode, particularly Auto-RP, where possible and especially for new deployments. However, if dense mode is desired, configure the global command ip multicast-routing and the interface command ip pim sparse-dense-mode on each interface that needs to process multicast traffic.

Apr 12, 2016 · In the figure, Routers 75a and 75b and the Catalyst 5000 (Switch A) are properly configured for multicast and Cisco Group Management Protocol (CGMP). The host gets the multicast traffic. However, so is every other host off of Switch A. Switch A floods the traffic out every port, which means that CGMP does not work.

Nov 16, 2016 · If there's no multicast router, and IGMP snooping is active, you'll need to enable an IGMP querier (sorry, would have to look it up to provide the exact commands). PS: If you're doing routing on the 2960x, you may find it's subset doesn't include support for multicast routing.
