PTEX painting provides a new way for artists to paint texture maps - free from UVs. With PTEX painting, you apply paint to each base face of the mesh, creating high resolution detail without needing explicit UV coordinates. While UVs provide a way to map your texture from a rectangular image onto a 3D object, PTEX lets you paint directly on the faces of the object itself, no UVs required.

May 31, 2012 · With both processes (UV Map and PTex Paint) ready, we can now project the PTEx on an UV Map. I will export this model with the correct UV Map to MudBox. 11) Just click on SEND TO MudBox and choose ADD to Current Scene. 12) I just selected the PTex model and moved to get a better visualization from both meshes.

May 15, 2012 · For some reason, selecting this option causes Mudbox to repeat the extension, so be sure to fix that before hitting the Extract button on the bottom of the Ptex window. Now to Maya. Select the .obj of the base mesh you imported of the model and, in the Attribute Editor under the shape tab, select Attributes > Renderman > Ptex Support.

Oct 13, 2011 · I see no interest using pTex inside Unity, unity isn't a texture/modeling software to start with but 3D content creation softwares as recent releases of Mudbox already support pTex. You can import your models over there and paint them in 3D. That's how we do and our pipeline work as this:
