MPlayer uses libdvdread and libdvdcss for DVD playback and decryption. These two libraries are contained in the MPlayer source tree, you do not have to install them separately. You can also use system-wide versions of the two libraries, but this solution is not recommended, as it can result in bugs, library incompatibilities and slower speed.

There's been a major cleanup of the build system including removal of configure2 and dvdread-config scripts and some code cleanups. We added support for QNX, support for libdvdcss 1.3.0 and simplified static linking to it. dlopen support for Win32 was also improved. Nov 27, 2007 · Hi, I've build successfully mplayer without 'smbclient' 'lirc-utils' 'live-media' and 'jack-audio-connection-kit' dependencies. Before executing makepkg I removed the 'smbclient' 'lirc-utils' and 'jack-audio-connection-kit' packages from my system to be shure mplayer compiles without them.
