chrome could play html5 mp4 video but html5test said chrome did not support mp4 video codec. It has to do with the phasing out of mp4 support in Chrome in favor of webm open format. Currently browser support seems spurious. See the post for informative details. The Cromium forum provides further information about the codec support. Hope this helps.

My experience (using H.264 video in an MP4-container) is that, in Chrome browser (on Windows-based PCs), the video is very glitchy and unacceptably jerky. (Whereas, on all other browsers, such as Firefox, Opera, etc, the video is plays fine.)
