I have 2 Gigabyte Z97 boards, they both support hot swapping, but you must enable it in the UEFI before you use it, as it is disabled by default. I learned this but hot swapping a drive and the computer shutting down immediately, it then power cycled every 20 seconds or so and wouldn't post. Ultimately I had to RMA the board.

Jan 09, 2010 · I hot swap drives to do data recovery just wait till the drive goes to sleep. You mean in Control Panel --> Power Options, you set the drive to go to sleep after a period of time? And then any SATA hard drive can be unplugged while the computer is still on, regardless of hot swap support?

Apr 26, 2013 · Hi, I've built a new system with crosshair V and AMD bulldozer processor, etc. I'm running windows 7 ultimate. I have 6 hard drives and 2 DVD. drives 1 & 2 are set up as RAID with two partitions in mirrored raids and one in stripping RAID. (2TB each) drives 3 & 4 are not yet in a RAID so they are independent at this point. (1TB each)

Jan 04, 2014 · I did not build this server but the guy who did was supposed to know what he was doing and to me HOT Swap capability on a prod server is a necessity. This server does NOT have a card between the hard drives and the motherboard. Simply connects with a SATA cable from drive to board. Does this mean Hot Swapping is not possible?

Jul 11, 2017 · I just built a new PC with a Thermaltake Overseer RX-I case and an Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 motherboard. I am running Windows 10 Pro. I enabled AHCI for the Sata port that the dock built into the case is connected to. I also enabled hot swap for that Sata port only. I can boot up with a hard drive installed and it appears in my device list.
