Sep 02, 2011 · Judging by your first screenshot, it looks like Winamp is trying to use the MP3 Decoder to play M4A, which means that in_mp4.dll isn't present, and that's why you can't play any M4A files. Reinstall Winamp 5.62 and make sure MP4 is checkmarked under the Multimedia Engine > Audio Support section on the Choose Components page.

The MP4 plugin supports unprotected .m4a and .mp4 files and is included with Winamp 5 and can be copied to the MediaMonkey plug-ins directory (both libmp4v2.dll and in_mp4.dll must be copied). The MP3 plug-in supports AAC files.

Discus and support Winamp won't play .m4a files recorded on my phone in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; I recorded a bunch of audio on my phone and it came out as .m4a files. They play fine in other players, but winamp won't play them.

- As from Winamp 5.12 and later, the default Nullsoft MPEG-4 Decoder (in_mp4) supports he-aac/nero digital mp4/m4a audio files, so there's no longer any need to use this plugin. Note, the new in_mp4 still doesn't support mpeg4 video3.6/5

No. There is no support for proprietary drm-protected M4P, M4B or M4V files. We do support playback of non-drm M4A, MP4, M4V & F4V formats. Does Winamp 5 support QuickTime or Real Audio/Video? No, Winamp currently does not natively support the playback of either of these proprietary formats.
