Dec 12, 2013 · I can't say I have ever seen a true fire rated suspended ceiling, but would guess that a luminaire rated for one would probably be much heavier than a non fire rated luminaire, so I could see it needing additional support just because of its weight.

Jan 09, 2008 · The age old question is, Do I need to provide independent support for 2X4 lay-ins in suspended ceilings. My answer has been "No" and qualified by saying that the ceiling needs to be adequately supported and the fixture needs to be secured to the ceiling grid.

Jul 26, 2004 · With Intermediate-Duty ceiling systems, if the 4-foot spacing of grid support wires is not within 6 inches (3 inch if UBC) of each corner of the light fixture, then additional wires must be attached to the luminaire to support it. This additional wiring support requirement is not required with Heavy-Duty suspended ceiling systems.
