only 6000/6500 and 5500 switches support NAT. on a 2960 you can configure an IP address on a port if you make this port a L3 port with the no switchport interface command.

Apr 17, 2017 · You don't NEED a L3 switch with NAT to migrate from public IPs to a private addressing scheme. Buy a good firewall, start off by just putting your primary WAN IP(s) interfaces on this and run the rest through the 4500x, then migrate chunks of the network to private addressing on the 4500x as you can.

Cisco specific .. As the title says, why is nat not supported in layer3 switches yet? This capability is available in 20 dollar consumer routers. It is not complicated, it is not cpu taxing. But yet, it continues to be absent in catalyst switches, even in switches that support bgp, hsrp, vlans, rapid-stp, ospf, even vrf-lite.. but no ip nat. why?
