Just to be clear, I have the two fibre ports (one on 4507, one on 3560) configured for an MTU size of 9000, the reason I did that is that from what I have been told the 3560 MTU is a global switch setting, so I cant configure a port on the 3560 to be 1500 once I have enabled jumbo frames, hence I had to create an uplink port via fibre to my 4507 and set it to 9000 MTU.

Hi, On smaller switches like 2960x, 3560, 3850, etc.. you can only enable jumbo frames globally for the entire switch. Usually on distro/core switches like 4500, 6500, 6800, etc.. it can be done per port.

Oct 23, 2013 · Configuring a switch to support jumbo frames only affects how the switch accepts the frames from the end stations - i.e. giving enough buffer space for frames larger than the default 1500 byte system MTU. It does not affect whatever local MTU is set on end systems.
