Jul 29, 2011 · I am using Hibernate, JTDS 1.2.5 and SQL Server 2008 R2 in my application. There is one case in which a nvarchar(max) field must be queried. I get correct results for input parameters with less than 4001 characters. SQL Server Profiler showed me the type for the prepared statement which is nvarchar(4000) in this case.

The problem arises only when using jdbc driver from microsoft (v4.2 on java 8). Using jtds-1.3.1 the problem disappears. The fact is that sqljdbc42.jar driver from Microsoft reports a column type -9 (that is NVARCHAR in java.sql.Types), while jtds-1.3.1 reports a value of 12 (that is VARCHAR).

I've started using datetime2 and date types in my SQLServer2008 instance. datetime2 was introduced in SQLServer2005 and date in 2008.
