The FTP plugin plugs into jEdit's virtual filesystem to allow transparent access to (S)FTP servers. It integrates with the filesystem browser (hence you can do things like add favorites which point to remote servers, and such), caches remote directory listings for improved performance, securely remembers passwords, and has optional support for passive-mode FTP.

In order to use it for FTP users must also, often, have telnet access - not exactly ideal from an administrative point of view. Many servers now use FTPS and FTPES instead of SFTP. Being able to access those servers directly from jEdit would be quite the time saver. I currently use the open source FileZilla client to access these kinds of servers.

Jul 07, 2010 · HI, I use the FTP plugin to open sftp files. It's works But, i see in the log file that jedit release the connection. Ok it's not a problem, but on the server the connection still there.
