Install Iceweasel from source. alpertek has already covered that very comprehensively. Switch from the stable version of Debian (wheezy) to testing or unstable. The newer Iceweasel (version 29+) packages seem to be using GStreamer 1.0 now and GStreamer support has been re-enabled per the changelog.

May 10, 2014 · “On YouTube, it adds support for Media Source Extensions, and MSE & WebM VP9 but not MSE & H.264 which means that some videos may not yet using this configuration.” If you view the HTML5 Video Page with Google Chrome you will see it supports all of them. Evidently all videos are using that configuration but Firefox doesn’t support it yet.

Feb 02, 2016 · you cannot take source for iceweasel and install it like that.. or did you say they are discontinuing support. (which i can find out after I post this and go back and read all of the post again). just un-install the repo iceweasel then compile and install it from source, when ever it is updated all you have to do is the same.

Aug 19, 2013 · I'm having an issue where mp4 video embedded with html5 returns an error: "Video format or MIME type not supported." However WebM video works perfectly. At first I thought this may be an issue with Iceweasel (17), so I downloaded Firefox Aurora (25), but the issue persists. ffmpeg and codecs are installed, mp4 videos play fine in mplayer2 and vlc.

Nov 28, 2017 · So if you are a web developer and are up to date with current best practice you should know that while WebM was a great idea when it was proposed by the W3C consortium, very few browsers took to the idea and therefore support is sketchy at best.

Does this happen with all WebM videos or only on specific websites? Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).. Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
