Hyper-Threading support in Linux kernel 2.4 Under the Linux kernel, a Hyper-Threaded processor with two virtual processors is treated as a pair of real physical processors. As a result, the scheduler that handles SMP should be able to handle Hyper-Threading as well.

Aug 14, 2014 · Nowadays CPU hyperthreading is not a hot topic but rather common. Generally speaking, for most cases, you can get roughly 10-20% performance gain on HT enabled, however, on the other hand, probably you will notice that power consomption and tempature will increase too(if you are managing a large HPC site, it is important to know before you switch hyperthreading on).

The minimum that is required to take advantage of hyper-threading is symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support in the operating system, as the logical processors appear as standard separate processors. It is possible to optimize operating system behavior on multi-processor hyper-threading capable systems.

Jan 09, 2008 · Apparently the Linux kernel has the ability to use Hyper-Threading since version 2.4 (though it is disabled by default) where it is proposed that there could be as much as a 30% increase in performance in multi-threaded applications, with predictions of 50% in newer versions.
