The PS3 system hard disk drive (HDD) is removable and upgradeable. An upgrade can be performed by removing the hard drive and replacing it with a larger capacity drive. Please be advised that if you replace the hard drive, the data that was on the original hard drive will not show up on the PS3 unless you manually back up the data and transfer it to the replacement hard drive.

Apr 03, 2019 · Looking at the best route for upgrading to a 1.5tb hard drive and installing CFW. Is best route 2.85 > 3.55 > 4.81CFW, then swap hard drive? I've heard only the newer firmwares support the 1.5tb drives. Don't have drive yet (in post), but windering if best to go through cfw process just now or to wait til I have drive and swap first.
