Gmail always wants a secure connection to its own SMTP server - SSL or TLS. You were using port 25, which in general cannot be set to use either of those security settings. So you (or your email client) either changed the security setting or changed the port setting.

Up until ~2 weeks ago both my mother in-law and father in-law were able to connect and send mail from OL2003 using their respective msn and live accounts. They were using smtp.live.com port 25 SSL.

Nov 18, 2019 · After rebooting, Outlook will connect to email server with SSL/TLS. Let me know if it worked for you. Spot on the only thing that worked for me. I already had Outlook and Gmail working on another W10 laptop so I knew it was not me :) this solved the issue using best practises
