Because the FreeBSD Perl package comes without threads support no official Padre packages are available. The prefered method is to manually recompile Perl port to support threads and then build Padre and all it's dependencies from Ports (see below). However there are highly experimental packages available for FreeBSD 6-STABLE and 7-STABLE.

Jul 27, 2013 · you must rebuild Perl without threads enabled or with -Dusethreads. Remember that threads-support slows things down and on some platforms it's unstable (e.g., FreeBSD), so don't enable it unless you really need it.

Nov 06, 2012 · I don't use perl or cpan, directly. I was trying to use irssi + sasl which needs cpan. Now I'm good with 'weechat-curses' but still many programs need cpan fixed. Do I have uninstall recompile perl do this? I'm not sure what to do, I can't even remember if I installed the pkg using pkg_add or ports (does it make any diff anyway?).

Sep 23, 2009 · Hmm, I know this is an old thread, but you can also just alter the “conflicts with” line in the Makefile of the perl-5.10 port and life will be good, as the -o tells portupgrade to use 5.10 to upgrade 5.8 (assuming you are using portupgrade)
