Framing the Roof Opening & Mounting the Chimney Support Box. After the chimney hole was cut in my roof, I then needed to build a frame to support the chimney box. The chimney box supports the weight of the chimney pipes, cap and roof transition components. Mine is 24″ square. I used some left over roof truss material to frame the opening.

The support box is designed to maintain the proper2" safety clearances for both the connector pipe and for the class A high-temp chimney pipe it is supporting.
