    SyncTeX support would enable clean source and output mapping. It is the modern pdfTeX implementation of what source specials did. There is already a patch to Evince in Gnome bugzilla[1]. Since SyncTeX needs support on both editor and viewer side adding this to the plugin would kickstart SyncTeX use in Gnome.
