On Lubuntu Artful Aardvark I have no problem with playing videos by making use of VLC 2.2.6. However I would like to use the built-in Chromecast option of the 3.0.1 version. I got it via the snap package management system. When I try to watch a DVD I get the following message: libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.

Feb 14, 2017 · Using Debian jessie 64 bit I tried to play a dvd and couldn't get to work. After investigating I found out it is a pc-friendly dvd. Never heard of that before. Beeen doing some search on the NET, but not able to figure out how to play this dvd on my computer. Is there a program that I can install that will allow me to play this dvd? Joe

Dec 29, 2018 · If after doing all this, you still get messages about not being able to play DVDs, check that the DVD drive has a region set (see below). Setting DVD Region Codes. If your DVD player regularly locks up when you try to play back a DVD, your DVD player probably does not match the DVD's region code. Region codes are a form of vendor lock-in.
