Jul 20, 2005 · I need to know how to find some info on my chipset. I am using TuneXP and the tweak is: ENABLE UDMA-66 Recommended for most people. Enables UltraDMA-66 on Intel chipsets. Recommended for people with ATA-66/UDMA-66 or higher compatible IDE controller chipsets. Is there a program or part of Windows XP Home that could come up with my chipset info?

May 30, 2009 · I have a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB hard drive and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. I ran Office Depot's Free PC Checkup program on my computer and it said UDMA 66 was not enabled, and that it should be. How do I enable it? I've looked all over the internet and I can't find a single page that says how to do it on Intel, but not AMD. I assume there's a difference.

Windows 2000 does not support ATA 100 (Mode 5) for IDE hard disks. All ATA 100 IDE hard disks that are used with Windows 2000 default to ATA 66 (Mode 4). My Question : is it necessary to manually implement the reg file to let win2000 support udma 66/100 or is it fixed in win2000 sp2 ?

Apr 20, 2015 · Hi there kingjezdi. Interesting that you're reading up on UDMA66. That's old school technology that's no longer in use on our brand new pc's. UDMA66 was a cachebuffer technology for the IDE interface of old HDDs and CDROMs supporting transferrates of up to 66MBps.

If you have a computer with an Intel chipset that supports UDMA66, you will still find that UDMA66 mode is disabled by default on Windows 2000 computers. This tweak allows you to enable or disable it. Open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value called "EnableUDMA66" and set it to "1" to enable UDMA66 or "0" to disable it.

The reason Microsoft does not enable UDMA/Ultra-ATA support during the installation of Windows 2000 is due to the wide range of available computer systems and the accompanying high risk of data loss in the event it is enabled on a system that doesn't support it, or on a system where specialized device drivers need to be installed.
