From here make sure Enable native XMLHTTP support is checked (like in the image below) and then click OK. If the setting is not available or grayed out you may need to contact your IT administrator. After adjusting this setting, reload the web page and it should function as expected.

It seems that the window.XMLHttpRequest is always working on IE 8 and IE8+ no matter that the Enable Native XMLHTTP Support" option is checked or not.
