Aug 16, 2013 · On the virtual machine that you are trying to enable 3D support and finding the 3D support greyed out, if it is Windows 2008 R2, Shutdown the virtual machine, edit the virtual machine properties and go to the options tab. On the right there is a "Guest Operating System" box. Select Microsoft Windows 7 instead of Windows 2008 R2. Save it.

Enable 3D Support checkbox will be shown on Video card settings page in Virtual Machine Properties dialog. If the host does not support 3D the checkbox will be disabled. 3D checkbox will be enabled only if the following requirements must be met: The host supports 3D acceleration; The host OS supports 3D acceleration i.e. meaning ESX 5.0 and higher.

Oct 04, 2011 · So I installed the guest os from a cd, it was no problem. Then I realized that I needed to enable 3d acceleration and 2d video acceleration. Spent an hour looking around trying to learn how to do this on my own. (didnt get it ~) I see the boxes to be checked but they are not checkable (greyed out)
