That's where ECC memory comes into play. ECC memory uses parity bits to store an encrypted code when writing data to memory, and the ECC code is stored at the same time. When data is read, the stored ECC code is compared to the ECC code that was generated when the data was read.

It all started when leaks and then online product pages for AM4 motherboards appeared, since their specifications lists showed support for both ECC and non-ECC DDR4 memory. The reason that ECC is much more popular among AMD consumers is that it’s a feature that the company has never blocked.

Right now support for ECC memory is heavily restricted on Intel platforms, making ECC memory support a nice boost for AMD's Ryzen CPU architecture and the easy choice for those that want to create a home ZFS server or NAS. You can join the discussion on AMD's Ryzen CPUs supporting ECC memory on …

Nov 05, 2013 · The Asus P9D WS we use in our Obsidian workstation would be a good example. The more mainstream Core i5 and i7 processors don't support ECC memory, though. AMD provides support for that type of memory on a much wider range of their processors, though, and so a lot of the corresponding motherboards support it as well.

ECC is included on cpu level BUT not validated by AMD to work on Ryzen cpus. Hence it is also not guaranteed by AMD in the first place and that is where the memory controller is situated (in the cpu).

Mar 02, 2017 · The chipset does not have any direct say in ECC support, the memory controller is inside the CPU. All AMD desktop CPUs since the Newcastle Athlon 64, including all Semprons, and all APUs since Trinity have supported ECC as far as I know.Reviews: 12

Advanced ECC can correct both single-bit memory errors and 4-bit memory errors if all failed bits are on the same DRAM device on the DIMM. Advanced ECC provides more protection than standard ECC because it is possible to correct certain memory errors that would otherwise be …

ECC memory targets enterprise-grade workloads, so most consumer PC motherboards either won’t support ECC RAM or will run it without its ECC function. To actually enjoy the benefits of ECC memory ...

Jan 04, 2016 · ECC Memory vs Non-ECC Memory. What’s the difference between an ECC memory and non-ECC memory? While both do all the things a memory should do, an ECC memory offers more than your regular reading and writing of data. An ECC memory will automatically detect errors that come from your memory and will automatically correct them.9.5/10(33)
