Jan 19, 2012 · According to Drobo’s support page, the Drobo must have version 1.4 firmware or higher to recognize 3TB drives. And the update was not passing through on FireWire which is identified as an issue on the Drobo release notes for the firmware update.

Has anyone used a DroboPro with any of the newest 3.3v pin drives without having to cover the pin with tape? Some users have said they slotted their shucked drives into other NAS/DAS arrays without having to do the work around, so I’m curious to find out if any DroboPro or even other Drobo users have had any luck or had to use the workaround.

May 01, 2013 · It was one of the new 3TB drives right out of the static bag. I have enough drives to setup the Drobo with dual drive redundancy so that's what I did. Now I'm just waiting for the warrantee exchange of the 3TB drive and I'll be finally done with this little project. Thanks for all the help.

Nov 30, 2015 · I think you'd want to check with the Drobo manufacturers as to whether the 5N can handle the 8TB capacity per drive.. Also, Seagate suggest that this drive is NOT suitable for NAS use and recommend their NAS range of drives, which are smaller capacity than the new archive drives.
