    Nov 04, 2011 · *We recently changed our ISP to xtra. We found out afterwards they do not support “imap”, only “pop”, for mail. *We need imap so that we can synchronize our 2 mac computers. Its not possible with pop. We use mac "mail". *Telecom does not support imap. However we have been told that people have managed to set it up.

Yes it looks like they have been switched over to SMX. pop3.xtra.co.nz is an alias for pop3.tmo.xtra.co.nz. pop3.tmo.xtra.co.nz has address 210.55.143.65 . So it seems it is their own servers configured to not accept connections from older clients.
