Apr 14, 2010 · Subtitles just are not displaying. All checking forced subs does in handbrake is creates a subtitle track with only the subtitles marked as "Forced". Basically the rest of the subtitle stream is just blank. These are working on MPlayer for OSX & VLC. I don't understand if XBMC has the track enabled and subtitles enabled why it is not displaying them.

Sep 26, 2012 · Contrary to XBMC, VLC does. When the forced flag is not set and the default flag is set to no, VLC will not display the subtitle. Unfortunately XBMC (Win) appears to ignore the flags completely and abide by its default subtitle setting.

Sep 11, 2013 · While the DVD does not have a separate forced subtitles track, individual dialog is marked as forced within the regular English subtitle track - I observed this by using subtitleedit. Now here is the strangeness.... When I ripped the DVD using MakeMKV, then playing the movie through XBMC, I would not get any forced subtitles.

Oct 05, 2010 · Ratings: +3. Hi, I've been looking into backing up my DVDs and am pretty much settled on using MakeMKV to make a lossless mkv rather than using the iso format. The only problem I've come across so far is getting forced subtitles to appear by default during playback on vlc or xbmc.

I have some mkv files with subtitles embedded in them. The subtitles can be viewed and controlled when using VLC on the desktop The subtitles can be viewed and controlled when viewing them on WDTV via a USB stick direct connection. But when I stream the files, WDTV does not recognize that there is an embedded subtitle file.
