I've read all the instructions and data sheets I can get my hands on but all I see is that the WRE54G will work with WPA security, not WPA2. My Linksys wireless networkworks fine. My laptop, which has a WPC54G adaptor, connects fine. The laptop sees a signal strength of 51 percent.

WRE54G Finally Working With WPA. The Linksys WRE54G is one of the most retarded pieces of equipment I’ve ever owned. The web interface is buggy and the documentation is as clear as mud. Oh yeah, and it didn’t support WPA out of the box (at least when I bought it a few years ago).

NOTE: The Linksys WRE54G only has options for WEP and WPA™-Personal. It does not support WPA2™ security. Step 4: Enter the security key that matches the settings of your wireless router then click Save Settings. You will be redirected back to the Setup tab.

hi , there are mixed feelings on the support of WPA2 with the WRE.....the usage of an AP at the end of the line is a better option i'd say.....the WAP54G is WPA2 compliant and should be easier to setup

Feb 20, 2007 · The router supports WPA2, as does my Mac, but the range extender only supports WPA. This is especially annoying since, in reading other threads here while trying to troubleshoot my problem, I read that all wifi equipment manufactured after the middle of last year is supposed to support WPA2...

Sep 03, 2004 · The WAP56G can be used as a repeater, but presently it does not support WPA as a repeater. I do not use WPA since my print-server WPS54U2 does not support WPA. Remember WPA will increase security ...

how ever it does suport WPA and that is working fine. but as allways if there is a new standard of encription its always the best way to go. and WPA2 is that standard. so i would like to use wpa2 and thats why i am asking if there wil be a firmware release anytime soon that will fully suport wpa2. because it already suports wpa. just not the second newer standard of it. i hope you get this now.

Without a wired extension, WDS extenders such as the WRE54G must chop wireless throughput in half. The RJ-45 network socket on the v2 makes the extender far more versatile. It can be used as a wireless bridge or a wired WDS extension, which does not chop your wireless throughput in half.

Re: WRE54G v3 Firmware Update to Support WPA2 AES. It does support WPA shared passphrase with AES, as of v3.04.01 (Jun. 28, 2006). It would be nice if it supported WPA2-AES, but I don't think it's essential for a product in this market.
