WoW already uses multiple cores, although I am not sure how many it can hit at a single time. Utilizing more cores doesn't necessarily mean you will get better performance. Your Graphics Card is a much bigger indicator of performance, even in MMOs where CPU utilization is higher than other games.

Anyway, to answer your question...I really don't think wow will ever utilize quad-core cpus. The power of quad-cores really comes into play in multitasking. As mentioned, if you want raw speed for gaming, a high frequency dual-core like the Core 2 Duo series (E8400, 8500, or 8600) is really going to give you the best performance.

Previously the game client was limited to 2 cores as a default which players could override in the configuration file. In the past this provided a performance boost on some CPUs and operating systems.

Hey Gang, With the new update coming, a lot of people are a little disappointed that their high end PCs are running WoW and getting super low FPS in areas they shouldn't given how well their Rigs handle other games, and that leads to my question as seen in the title.
