Re: WDS support for WNDR3700v4 Router WDS was useful in its day but it was never fully standardized, so interoperability between vendors was never guaranteed. It is now considered obsolete and insecure, due to most implementations supporting, at best, WEP security or no security at all.

Correct. WEP (and 54 Mbit/s mode), or no encryption and any mode. Those are the options when using WDS with the stock firmware. However, WDS works fine with WPA on DD-WRT. There are DD-WRT builds out there for the WNDR3700, so read up on that and you should be able to get it going.

If you are familiar w/ flashing alternative firmware, you have many options for the wndr3700 to be used as a bridge. Gargoyle v1.5.0, DD-WRT, and OpenWRT are your best bets, in that order of personal preference (easiest setup). Well, DD-WRT is easier, but its stability isn't as good recently.

Mar 12, 2010 · And the reason it doesn't have any security above wep for WDS is, neither does the billion.. nor most other wireless devices.. nor is it a proper standard. So the whole idea of using wep is a waste of time. If you don't have enough range from the WNDR3700 my recommendation is relocate it to a place where it does work..
