Dec 01, 2004 · It's not so much SATA itself as it is the SATA controller that you need drivers for. Different controllers need different drivers. I'm not sure if Windows XP includes any SATA controller drivers, but I know for mine it wasn't there (Silicon Image) so I needed a floppy.

Apr 18, 2008 · Best Answer: XP has very poor native support for SATA drives. To be used, one must either put in a floppy with the controller driver in, or slipstream the driver into the installation CD. XP does "support" them, though, in that they can be used with the correct drivers.

Re: Install XP on SATA system with no floppy simpswr, thank you for the advice, however, the Dimension 8400's do NOT have a standard floppy driver controller (there is nowhere to even plug a floppy cable into the motherboard).
