Sep 06, 2019 · LUNs are owned by one Storage controller on the array. From an ESXi point of view you speak of active or "passive" paths, not LUN. I worked with a couple of Dell ALUA arrays and never had the issue you are facing. Does the documentation of the product you use include configuration for ESXi? Can you get support from them?

Nov 27, 2017 · For example, ALUA is not supported for VMware ESX until vSphere 4.0. Check with the host OS vendor for supportability. Check the host system for any script that might be managing the paths automatically and disable it.

The DSM does not support both FC and iSCSI paths to the same LUN for Data ONTAP operating in 7-Mode. Note: FC refers to traditional Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). Because ALUA is required for FC paths, and ALUA is not supported for iSCSI paths to 7-Mode LUNs, the DSM does not support both FC and iSCSI paths to the same 7-Mode LUN.

Oct 05, 2017 · This means that the storage array does not support ALUA or, in the case of EMC CLARiiON, the initiator records are not configured in a mode that supports ALUA. Implicit—The array responds to REPORT TPGs but not SET TPGs commands. In this case, setting the TPG’s AAS is done only by the storage array.

The test checks whether the device declares support to ALUA by checking the INQUIRY TPGS field before additional testing. If the TGPS field is not 0, then the storage devices at least support REPORT TARGET PORT GROUPS, and the Report Target Port Groups test will be done.

Feb 03, 2012 · explicit_support: Shows whether or not the device supports explicit ALUA; this option cannot be set by the user as it is a property of the LUN. explicit_allowed: Shows whether or not the user allows the SATP to exercise its explicit ALUA capability if the need arises during path failure. This only matters if the device actually supports explicit ALUA (i.e. explicit_support is 'on').

May 11, 2012 · Anyway, this is probably the reason why EMC and VMware do not officially support VAAI with ESXi 5.0 on CX arrays. From a customer's point of view this is disappointing, but from EMC's point of view this decision is understandable, because they want to focus on their current products and not waste support resources on somewhat outdated arrays ...

Sep 29, 2009 · My interpretation of ALUA is that you can see any given LUN via both storage processors as active but only one of these storage processors “owns” the LUN and because of that there will be optimized and unoptimized paths. The optimized paths are the ones with a direct path to the storage processor that owns the LUN.

Oct 27, 2010 · Asymmetric Logical Unit Access (ALUA)? Resolution: ALUA allows you to see any given LUN via both storage processors as active but only one of these storage processors “owns” the LUN and because of that there will be optimized and un-optimized paths. The optimized paths are the ones with a direct path to the storage processor that owns the LUN.

Sep 23, 2014 · ALUA 1. Asymmetric Logical Unit Access I/O for Logical Unit „A‟, going directly to Node „A‟ owning the Logical Unit In this acronym, „Logical Unit Access‟ part is well understood but „Asymmetrical‟ at the beginning does make it sound little complicated.
