Feb 26, 2008 · Best Answer: In a word, no. XP can ADDRESS a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but that address space also includes all onboard PCI devices, such as your video card. In order to be able to talk to those devices, XP must ignore the upper 512 MB of your 4 GB of RAM.

XP doesn't support 4 GB RAM! A friend on mine recently ordered -- on my advice -- a Vostro 400 tweaked to its highest settings with Windows XP Home, a quad core processor and 4 GM RAM. Fresh out of the box, it started up with the BSOD. After hours spent with tech support, we finally got a tech to the site with a new hard drive and video card.

I decided to upgrade my RAM for AoC. Previously i had 4x512mb RAM = 2gigs. Currently I have windows xp home edition service pack 2. I have installed the RAM and double checked everything, slots 1&3 left-right are used correctly. All Hardware is working. BIOS is acknowledging the RAM as 4 gigs which is the exact amount i am now using.

If you are running 64-bit Windows, you may have to live with it. Depending on your motherboard's chipset, your system may support memory remapping. If so, you will be able to use all 4GB of RAM.
