May 26, 2013 · This is just an idea, but you could try installing windows 98 inside a VM (virtual machine) on xp/w7 or whatever operating system you would like to use. virtualbox, vmware, etc. ... wpa2 came when win98 support was winding down, so unless it worked out of the box the first time I would avoid it.

Aug 10, 2007 · Windows 98SE can Not do WPA2 (WPA-AES). It should support WPA-PSK provided that your card's drivers support it for Win98. In many cases WEP is the max that a Wireless system around Win98SE would support.

Aug 17, 2013 · Is there a way to enter this somehow? It seems that Windows determines the available security types based on the driver information for the wireless adapter. However, I'm using a Linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter (WUSBG54) and it says it supports WPA (although I can't determine if that's WPA only or WPA2 as well).

May 14, 2016 · As mentioned, WPA2 isn't directly supported by Windows 2000. I tend to use WPA in cases like this. It's adequately secure, easier to find supporting hardware and drivers, and is more likely to be usable if you ever have "guest" computers that need to use your WiFi.

While many tools support WPA, WPA2 is the newest and is used on most internet installations these days. In my opinion, Windows 2000 is still a very capable legacy system, and this post should be useful for anyone searching the web in the future.

Sep 20, 2016 · So far, I haven't had any problems with this card at all, though it was difficult to find the older Windows 98 compatible driver for it. I also have a HiRO H50069 PCI card (with Realtek RTL8185 chipset) which also supports WPA2 on Windows 98 SE, but I don't recommend this one because the Realtek utility is extremely buggy and wastes CPU usage.
