Hello, I am running Windows 7 32-bit on a computer that has more than 4GB of RAM (10GB to be exact), but I understand that Windows 7 32-bit by default can only use 4GB of RAM. My processor does have No Execute (Data Execution Prevention) enabled and has PAE (Physical Address Extension) also enabled.

Mar 19, 2012 · Now my questions is...If I put 8gb in my laptop (knowing that Windows 7 will only support 4gb, will my hard drive start heavy file paging like Vista did? Or will it gently ignore the extra ram? 32 bits OSs will only address 4gb memory whatever the OS is. Why would you want to put 8gb RAM if you use a 32 bits OS? Use 64 OS with more than 4 gb RAM.

Nov 26, 2017 · In round numbers XP, Vista and Windows 7 32-Bit Versions of the Operating System can only address 4GB. Does not matter how much memory you have installed 4GB is the max. From that max your video card has XXXMB of ram on the card so that limits the operating system to 4GB minus the cards XXXMB of memory.

May 08, 2009 · The beta version released to those wanting to give it a try will definitely support more than 4Gb. This is the 64 bit version. My buddy has one of those wild homebuilt computers in his dorm and he has 16Gb of RAM runnin on the Windows 7 OS.

May 24, 2013 · Microsoft has locked their desktop 32-bit OSes to 4GB maximum, so PAE does nothing in Windows 7. The only exception to this was, I believe, Windows XP Pre-SP2, but once SP2 came out Microsoft limited the OS to 4GB of RAM because machines with PAE enabled with more than 4GB of RAM were having driver issues.Cooling: stock

Even when more than 4GB of memory is present, each process still has the normal 2GB virtual address space, and the kernel address space is still 2GB, just as on a normal non-PAE system.
