Oct 14, 2009 · Windows Server 2008 does not use CIFS to connect to network shares. We run a couple of Windows 2003 file servers that have NetBIOS disabled for security reasons and best practices. Windows XP clients and other Windows 2003 servers can connect just fine to these file servers using CIFS (port 445), however, Windows 2008 servers cannot.

Nov 13, 2013 · You can just create a share on the server, and map to it. Windows uses the SMB protocol. Having not used unitrends, you will need to determine if you need to connect by UNC path or SMB share. Windows 2008 Storage Server supports CIFS and NFS out of the box.
