If this does not resolve your issue, Looks that you could be having a defective or incompatiable USB hub, Please try it with another USB hub which has it’s own power supply rather than using WDTV Live SMP’s power from the USB port.

Since the WDTV Live is out of warranty, and I have the WDTV Live Hub in case I completely screw up the WDTV Live, I decided to add the custom firmware. Although it does not have all of the “bells and whistles” of the newer WD firmware, it does support USB hub without issues. Once loaded the firmware - and disabled “Media Library”, it works flawlessly with the USB hub.

Has anyone tried plugging a usb hub into the WD LIve TV and see if can support more than 2 drives at the same time? The WD Live TV with custom firmware has supported this for months now, and most other players (Popcorn Hour) already support this, so I hope they have added this with the recent firmware update.

Oct 20, 2018 · WDTV Live and newer USB Drives. I still use a WDTV Live for playing video files on my HDTV. I've been using Western Digital Elements or Passport 2 TB USB drives for several years. They used to come with MBR partitions, a few years ago they switched to GPT partitions.

Now, I would like to buy a similar media box to a friend of mine, but nowadays it is very common to find only android boxes. After the firmware is now copied on the pen drive, simply plug it into the WDTV Live media player’s USB port and switch on the power. (Restarting from the remote won’t do. You will have to switch off and switch on the power adapter).
