Jun 20, 2010 · The exfat file system allows one on a windows 7 system to read and copy files greater then 4 GB to a drive that has been formatted with the exfat file system is why it would be better if the MAC OS was able to read and write to a disk that was formatted exfat.

Oct 20, 2009 · I am newly installing NTFS-3G on my system running Snow Leopard. After rebooting there is no NTFS option for formatting in Disk Utility. Only the standard Mac default options and FAT. I uninstalled and re-installed again. Rebooted again with the same result. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Steve

Jun 21, 2010 · And you’d also obviously know that OS X does read from an NTFS partition. The trouble is, you don’t get NTFS write by default. In Snow Leopard, both read and write capability is apparently available natively. The reason why it’s not officially available, it seems, is due to licensing issues rather than technical capability.

The only format that support all of your requirements is ExFAT. It is natively supported by Win7, Lion and Snow Leopard (from 10.6.5, I believe). share improve this answer
