Jun 05, 2006 · Rockbox support. You're never going to get APE support on any DAPs (nevermind embedded cues). At least not unless a lot changes. I think you could use embedded cues with FLAC though, which would probably be feasible to implement in Rockbox.

Sep 27, 2007 · As FLAC is lossless it's the same as listening to a WAV on your iPod. Your iPod Nano is supported by the Rockbox firmware although, as it's only 4GB, space may be more of a concern for you. FLAC is about 60% the size of a WAV whereas MP3 is about 10-20% depending on bitrate.

Speex is a codec geared towards speech compression. Rockbox uses libspeex, which does decoding completely in fixed point. Almost all of the encoder is now available in fixed point, and might be feasible for encoding in Rockbox at some quality/complexity settings.
