My container uses an entrypoint script to. write directories (provided via command-line arguments) into /etc/exports, invokes rpcbind and service nfs-kernel-server start, and; defers to inotifywait to remain running. The Dockerfile is nothing special.

Hi @steeldriver I have isolated the fault to being shares that are hosted off the home directory. Whenever I try to share anything off /home/john/ , then exportfs comes up with the same error: "does not support NFS export". Do you know why this would be? – john smith Feb 9 at 19:30

Nov 29, 2014 · any entry in /etc/exports file caused message "folder does not support NFS export" ... no matter if debian wheezy, squeeze, testing, if folder is on ext2,ex3,lvm, if nfs3 or nfs4, directly from pendrive, anywhere... I give up, I spend many hours on that without any result ...

May 10, 2015 · My testserver is on 6beta15 I just enabled NFS, set export for a share to yes and see: exportfs: /mnt/user/Media Hal does not support NFS export in the syslog. Can someone explain this? Is something wrong?

Due to NFS doesn't work under encrypted directory and this is probably only your home folder, you must move your directory to unencrypted space. In my case I've move vangrat project dir from /home/me/vagrant/project > /var/www/vagrant/porject.

@roaima to be more correct NFS can only export supported file systems. NFS is obviously not supported. NFS is obviously not supported. BTW some filesystems which seem to work may not work …
