@roaima to be more correct NFS can only export supported file systems. NFS is obviously not supported. BTW some filesystems which seem to work may not work correctly. A few years ago I was surprised that not even ext4 was working as it should and NFS developers told me that it's not officially supported. – rudimeier Jul 17 '17 at 15:00

exportfs: /data/INTERNAL does not support NFS export. I was running into this issue trying to export from my encrypted /home/folder on my Ubuntu machine however Volumio doesnt use encryption (to my knowledge). Interestingly, when I run 'showmount -e 10.0.1.21' (server-ip) from the from the client (Ubuntu 14.04) it returns the following:

Every file system being exported to remote users via NFS, as well as the access level for those file systems, are listed in the /etc/exports file. When the nfs service starts, the /usr/sbin/exportfs command launches and reads this file, passes control to rpc.mountd (if NFSv2 or NFSv3) for the actual mounting process, then to rpc.nfsd where the file systems are then available to remote users.
