The q6600 although a common well known processor of the Intel Core 2 Quad series was not the only 1 of all Core 2 Quad processors that supported 64-bit instructions. In fact, all Core 2 Quad processors support 32 & 64 bit.

Jan 07, 2010 · Downloaded 64 win 7 pro dvd crashes when unpacking files (tried 2 DVD's and two different files). called microsoft and was told my q6600 is only a 32 bit cpu, and i could not load 64 bit win 7 on it. intel, wikipedia, google, tom's harware all discribed the quad core twos as 64 bit cpus.

I just finished doing a clean install (downloaded the MS DVD iso) on an old system that has an Intel DQ35JO motherboard, 8gb RAM and a Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor. It was previously running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.
