Not true. You can set HTML and body to min-height: 100% to fill the window. So if you set the next element to min-height:100% it should fill the parent element. Also the 320px is coming from the content, not any css. Chrome is showing you the "displayed" height, not the set height. – Dave Mar 11 '11 at 19:25

I need a workaround for min-width Internet explorer 6 and 7 as min-width doesn't work there. Works fine in ver. 8 and 9. I have tried changing the doctype to strict to make oit run in ie7 but that didn't fix it.

Unfortunately IE7 will be able to read that second rule, and it so happens that IE7 will still expand boxes just like earlier IEwin versions. This means that the above rule will make IE7 also reset the height to auto, and so the desired min-height "effect" will be lost in that browser.
