Dec 15, 2011 · 45m on Cat5e, the most commonly installed UTP cable types Note: these distances are for solid core cabling, not standed as typically used in patch cables. Another great feature of 10GBaseT is that it will auto negotiate to 1000Base-T, so a switch will conecct to 10Gbe and 1GbE devices, protecting your investment and allowing for gradual upgrades of connected devices.4.9/5(290)

Cat5e cable is completely backwards compatible with Cat5, and can be used in any application in which you would normally use Cat5 cable. However, the added specifications of Cat5e enable it to support Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T), or networks running at 1000 Mbps.

Apr 25, 2016 · The speed is fixed. There are different generations of Ethernet. 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps. Both sides can do one or more of those speeds. There might be a little auto-negotiation to see which speed the cards on both sides support.

Oct 07, 2014 · Officially, 10Gb runs over Cat6 up to around 55m without any bundles of cable iirc (and 35m if bundled), and on Cat6a to 100m. 10GBASE-T makes use of transmissions of 500MHz which needs better cable. You might get it running over short distances on Cat5e but check the counters on the switch and NIC for any errors, or run a proper tester if you have one.

The Cat5e patch cables used to support 1Gbps network are no longer enough for 10Gbps, which calls for new specifications of twisted pair copper cabling. Ethernet cable with higher bandwidth such as Cat6 cable, Cat6a cable and Cat7 cables are introduced for high-speed applications of 10GBASE-T.

Feb 24, 2012 · Cat5e is all that's needed for gigabit. As Derek_A points out, you will not be able to use Cat6 for 10 gigabit over long distances; that requires Cat6a and is really expensive right now. If it was me and budget was a concern, I would use Cat5e. If the budget has the room, then Cat6 would not be …

Mar 14, 2013 · Each 1000BASE-T network segment can be a maximum length of 100 meters (328 feet), and must use Category 5 cable or better (including Cat 5e and Cat 6). So in summery, CAT5 will "work" but CAT5e …
