May 15, 2015 · Most games hides/disables the setting for PhysX if you have a AMD graphics card. It was different with Alice: Madness Returns or at least when i had my AMD card, i could turn on PhysX but the game would run horribly slow and as it should with PhysX off. As Rove says, your cpu will do the calculation instead.

Later (a bit) as GPU's became powerfull enoigh to do both graphics and compute introduced CUDA as the accelartion platform for PhysX. Oct 28, 2014 · Nvidia cards have a processor entirely dedicated to physx (or so I read) so it can leave the cpu free to do other stuff, greatly improving performance with games that use that technology. AMD cards don't have this though, so the performance is horrible.
